Kryslin & Larry became good friends of ours when we bought our home in February of last year. Larry does landscaping and we were in a total backyard makeover. Who would’ve thought that over the spring and summer of 2020 we’d become so close to one of our clients during a crazy world wide pandemic? We we’re so excited about it, and are so happy we did choose someone like Larry to help us with this transformation. Now, a year later, we finally got to celebrate with him and Kryslin. So first off - I want to thank each of you for expressing interest in our mentoring sessions. I’ve been planning our mentoring sessions for over 3 years. Ever since I was the Rising Tide Leader in Rhode Island, I fell in love with teaching others the ins and outs of photography & business. As a graduate of Hallmark Institute of Photography back in 2012, I have the unique experience of being “professionally trained” at a high-end photography business school. However, most of what I’ve learned and what I teach I’ve learned in the past 10 years as a wedding & portrait photographer here in Rhode Island.
Who are our mentoring sessions for?
Our mentoring sessions are geared towards anyone with a camera wanting to learn more about photography, or the ins and outs of their business. Whether it’s your first time with a professional camera, or you want to learn how to shoot more couples and weddings, or maybe you’re trying to come up with a business plan and running into some hurdles. Maybe you just want to get more organized and need help with doing so. Or maybe you just need some help with editing and post-processing. What I’m trying to say is that our mentoring sessions are geared towards ANYONE. Beginner or a seasoned pro. We’ll sit down with you and make sure we cover whatever topic(s) you need help with!

Coffee Time

Grab a cup of coffee, or your favorite glass of wine, and let’s chat! This package is intended to be an open-ended Q&A with us! Don’t know what to ask? We’ll send you a questionnaire prior to our session to get your brain thinking (and for us to get to know a little bit more about you). This package is perfect for anyone just starting out who needs just a little help in their business, or a seasoned pro who is trying to figure out how to go full time! We’ll spend some time with you over FaceTime/Zoom and really work with you to make sure you succeed.

The Styled Shoot (w/ coffee)

Need more of a hands-on approach with posing, working with a shoot, and editing? Our Styled Shoot session is geared for photographers who are looking to break into the realm of photography. We’ll plan a shoot with a REAL couple, family, or portrait on a date that works best for you. You’ll have an hour and a half to document the session with me. We’ll walk through posing, styling, locations, and so much more. After the shoot, we’ll grab a cup of coffee and go over the session together. We’ll work on your editing and post-processing. From planning to delivery.

I’ve always dreamed of hosting a 2-3 day workshop event, somewhere in the mountains, where we can help photographers & videographers transform their business and leave feeling ready to conquer the world. The first day focused on the BUSINESS of weddings and how to really separate yourself from the competition and make weddings your full-time gig. The second day focused on shooting a FULL DAY Mock Wedding alongside myself and other industry giants.

I cannot wait to share Jackie & Josh’s beautiful day with you all! I got to know these two over the past year. We bonded after their incredible Lovebird Session and if I remember correctly, they showed me my new favorite restaurant in Newport, Winner Winner (which, side note, has the BEST fried chicken in the state. You HAVE to try it). We quickly became friends and counted the days down to their big day at the vineyard. The day of couldn’t have been better. With cloudy overcast skies, cool september weather and their fun, laid back, “folk fest” theme to the day, you could say it was one of our favorite this past month.

Planning a wedding is hard work. Now imagine doing it across the country 3,000 miles away. That’s what Megan & Robbie had to do. Plan a Newport wedding while live and work across the country in CA. Luckily they had their incredible parents to rely on to help find vendors, choose last-minute details and more. We were so happy that Megan’s mom, Wendy contacted us. It feels like just yesterday when we were all meeting at the Starbucks in Newport in December of 2018. Gosh! I can’t believe it’s been a year and we’re here already.
Megan & Robbie celebrated at the incredible Newport Vineyards, surrounded by their closest family and friends. We got to experience their weekend first hand. Wendy invited us to their rehearsal dinner hosted at their amazing Newport home, and we were quickly welcomed in like family. After getting to know Megan, Wendy, Robbie and Gordon over the past year we felt so connected to this group of people that when it came time to actually photograph them all, it was like photographing our best friends we’ve known our whole life.
I cannot wait to share this sneak peek with you. From Megan’s getting ready and Wendy crying to Wendy’s speech and me balling my eyes out (not pictured haha)…this wedding was filled with tears, love, and happiness. We’re so excited to share a sneak peek into their special day.

Lindsay & Sal's wedding blog post has arrived! It was a day filled with a ton of laughs, smilies and of course tears. Their day was even more special since they had family and friends from all over make the trip out to Providence for them. Lindsay's family is from Indiana, and Sal's family is from all over New England. Together, combined with friends from all over the country and more it was a fun filled day! We had a blast photographing these two and can't wait to show you all more but for now, enjoy this sneak peek!

Whenever a couple tells me they're adventurous, I jump at the opportunity to do something fun for their photos. One thing I mention to them all the time is that these photos should feel like them. It shouldn't be posed and fake. If you don't go to the beach, why are we going to take your photos on the beach? If you're not city people why would we go downtown and take your engagement session photos there? I encourage couple's to always choose a spot or a location that means something to them, or at least gives them an opportunity to do something they love.
Josh & Kaylah love to hike and be outdoors. We spoke about doing a session at their favorite hiking spot in New Hampshire but then decided we could probably get that same look and feel someplace closer. I think we hit it right on the nail. Lincoln Woods provided the perfect backdrop to what is now some of my favorite Lovebird Session photos. I hope you enjoy this little sneak peek into their love story.
Sometimes when I speak to couples over the phone for the first time, they spend some time chatting about our conversation and services with their family & friends. Understandably since choosing a wedding photographer isn't an easy decision. However for Aubrey & Luke as soon as they saw my site, they knew they wanted to book me. After a few emails we even planned their engagement session for the week they booked! This never happens!
Aubrey & Luke we're so excited for their lovebird session and I can totally see why! These two were so in love and adorable - even at 5am! We braved the time and woke up super early to head out to Newport, RI and capture their story with early morning walks on the beach, wine at 6am, and of course breakfast ;)
I had such a great time and I can't wait to see Aubrey & Luke again. Here's just a snippet of their lovebird session! Enjoy!

As a photographer, you love when one of your previous clients wants to do work with you again. That means that you made such an impression on them the first time that they wouldn't think of hiring anyone else but yourself to photograph them again. In this case, Kathy contacted me last year about her daughter's senior portraits. We had such a blast photographing Mackenzie and Kelly last year that when Kathy told me she wanted to do some family portraits in the snow, I immediately texted her and said "there's a snow storm Thursday! Let's do it!" She was totally up for it!
We had a blast in the snow. Lincoln Woods was the perfect place to head after the storm. Sure we maybe froze our feet off, but it was overall such a fun time! After we got moving, it didn't even feel like it was that cold out.

99% of my clients find me through social media, the Knot, or even through Google. However Elizabeth & Matt are with the other 1% of couples. Liz first saw my work when I photographed her friend Alyce back in 2014. Alyce & Josh's wedding is recognized with all of my couples. It's one of my favorites! Julianne (another bride of mine) also found me through Alyce & Josh's photos. Who would have thought that they would all know one another? Alyce knew Liz, who knew Julianne and BAM! We have our first wedding where all three of our clients are in one room. What a small world! With that being said, Elizabeth & Matt knew right away who was going to be there on their wedding day to photograph them. Once they met with me, I was ecstatic for their day.
Although it was a cold and rainy day, Liz & Matt braved through it all and were great sports. They even ditched the umbrellas at one point! I had an awesome time either way. Looking back at these photos I'm reminded of how much fun we had that night. These two seriously know how to throw a great party.

And last but definitely not least, my personal favorite, and one of the best rain wedding photos I've taken to date:
I have a confession to make...At almost every wedding, I cry a little bit. But the story I'm about to tell you, may have you crying before the end of it. I try as a photographer to be in the moment 100% of the time. That means I'm experiencing the same happiness, sadness, sometimes stressfulness of my couples. With Annie & Chris, this was no different.
On a cold, rainy September day, Annie & Chris woke up ready for their beautiful Newport wedding planned. However, when they woke up to rain, as most of you could imagine, it wasn't what they expected. They still embraced the day with happiness & joy like they've always done in their relationship and with life. Much like their wedding day Annie & Chris had everything planned out for their life up until April of this past year when Annie found out she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. As unexpected as that was, they pushed forward with planning their big day and all the adventures ahead. Annie had surgery in May and started chemotherapy in June. Smack dab in the middle of all this, was their wedding in September. When I reached out to Annie & Chris to plan our final get together before their big day, she told me she had "something very important to tell me" I couldn't have even imagined that she would say "I have breast cancer".
Photography is more important than we know it. Sometimes people think all I do is "take pictures" however, it's so much deeper. I got a little teary eyed when Annie & Chris sat down with me for their meeting. I couldn't help but remember my papa, who passed away from cancer just a few years ago. I couldn't help but wish that I had more photographs with him, and of him. For all I knew, Annie & Chris's wedding pictures could be their only professional photos they would have of one another. It's a huge responsibility as it is, however, with the circumstances, it was even bigger. I remember getting in the car with Jenn on the way to Newport that day and I looked over and said "This is the most important wedding we have this year."
As you can imagine, their day went off without a hitch! Sure, it rained, it poured. But that didn't stop us. We embraced each and every minute of it. Exploring Newport in the rain is quite the adventure.
My favorite part of the whole day was when Annie's sister, Rachel gave her speech. Beyond being hilarious, her speech would go down for the best Maid of Honor speech I've ever heard. Towards the end, Rachel said something along the lines of: "Now, everyone here has been inspired by Annie and her amazing positivity, strength and courage but rather than pass the mic around and tell her, why don't we show her?" and everyone threw up signs of funny phases about breast cancer, inspirational quotes from Annie, or just messages to her. I broke down in tears. I apologize to Rachel, Annie, and their family in advance. The photos are a tad blurry because I was shaking and so overwhelmed with emotion. I'm a big baby. I knew it was coming and I still cried!
To Annie & Chris, thank you. Thank you for allowing me out of all people to photograph your big day. I know when choosing a photographer you look at prices, photos, websites, whats included, and that sometimes influences your choice, but besides all that - You guys choose me. You allowed me to capture your story, your next chapter in a beautiful, documentary style way. You became friends of mine rather than clients, and your photos, and your story became some of my favorite of all time.
Thank you to Annie's doctor Valerie Fein-Zachary, who without her and her amazing team, Annie & Chris could have had a much tougher road than expected.
You'll be happy to know that Annie is fully 100% out of chemotherapy and is on the road to recovery. I hope this brightens up her day as much as she's brightened up my life.
You inspire me Annie & Chris. For that, I am forever grateful.

Boy do I have a treat for you all today. Back at the beginning of this year, my goal was to photograph my couple's in a more candid, storytelling way. Not every wedding presents itself like this, but every so often you get to photograph everything as it happens and you just sit back and smile through the camera.

Whitney is a actually an amazing blogger & graphic designer. When I got the call from LA, I honestly thought it was some advertising company trying to sell me something. I had no idea that this couple from LA wanted me to be their wedding photographer. When I found out that Whitney was a blogger, I had this cool idea for her to guest blog on my site. Hello everyone!
My name is Whitney Eshleman, a graphic designer and blogger based in Los Angeles, California. I went to art school at Suffolk University in Boston and lived there for a few years before moving to Los Angeles in 2007. I created my lifestyle blog, hoopLA, on a whim after a layoff in 2010 and it just took off. Since then I have been designing and writing and hoopLA has me all over California, and now expanding across the US.
I've lived in LA for nine years, and anyone who has been here for some time knows dating in Los Angeles isn't easy. It's the land of the online dating. I was lucky enough to have a herniated disc injury and needed surgery because I met my now husband, Tyler. Tyler was my physical therapist after my surgery and it was love at first sight. From the moment we saw each other, we were together. I am originally from Glastonbury, CT and Tyler is from Binghamton, NY so we both have the east coast mentality. Plus, we both went to school in Boston and are huge Red Sox fans.
Tyler now works for a company where he visits four high end hotels in Los Angeles and the City of Santa Monica, and teaches ergonomics to their employees. I am a freelance graphic designer, so our flexible schedules allow us to have "adventures" (as we call them) and hike, bike, camp, and travel as much as we can. We want to experience as much as life has to offer.
When it came to wedding planning, I was planning 3,000 miles away from where we were getting married. My mom helped me plan everything after we were engaged. We wanted something rustic, yet elegant and Newport Vineyards was the perfect venue. Tyler and I are huge winos, so when we heard it was a vineyard, we were sold. I visited 3 months later to seal the deal and Tyler and I fly out the May before so he could see it too. In terms of finding our DJ, caterer, Ryan, hair/makeup, and flowers, I had to just trust my gut. My mom found a few through word of mouth recommendations and I found some on theknot.com and did a little research on my own. In May we met with everyone and felt confident in our choices and they all turned out to be rock stars. One word of advice for your wedding is to find a photographer who you enjoy being around because they are with you all day. I not only enjoyed Ryan and his team, but I loved them. On a day where emotions are running high, they knew exactly how to take control and pose us. They can really read people and made sure Tyler and I were happy, comfortable, fed, and liquored up. Ryan is a joy to work with and he always has a smile on his face. More than anything I loved that he checked in with Tyler and I right up to the day and he was always accessible. I am in absolute love with what I've seen so far and hope you love them too!

Cheers for the weekend being right around the corner! This weekend we have ourselves a triple header. That means we're photographing a couple Friday, Saturday and Sunday! It's going to one heck of a weekend but we're most excited to return to this beautiful venue pictured below: Newport Vineyards.
Amanda & Dan both grew up in Rhode Island, so it was only fitting that they celebrated with all their family and friends in true Rhody style. This included a beautiful, rustic Newport vineyard wedding complete with "chowda", and an amazing clambake that had fresh lobster, mussels, potatoes, corn on the cob, and even portuguese sausage! It was an absolutely perfect day.

Crystal + Tim's wedding might be the most entertaining wedding I've ever been to. These two are filled with energy and love for each and every person they meet and that's what makes them so special. Their wedding was seriously a blast! From the getting ready moments, to the reception where the maid of honor and best man made videos instead of speeches (which were super awesome by the way!) Crystal + Tim planned a night that was really unforgettable.

I first met Tanna & Louie a year ago where they contacted me to capture their 1 year anniversary. We had a blast at Lincoln State Woods on a beautiful March day. A year later, Tanna contacted me again with some big news. I remember I got a text from her saying "RYAN. GUESS WHAT!" And at first, I thought maybe she wanted to get her second anniversary photographed, but her news was much more exciting than that. She had a baby boy on the way, and it was time to capture the next chapter of their story together.
Liam can't have better parents than these two. They are two of the most loving, kind, clients I know and Liam is blessed to call them Mommy & Daddy. With just two weeks to go, it'll be any day now that they welcome him to this world.
I am so blessed to be a photographer and capture moments like these on camera. Photos that Tanna, Louie and Liam will look back on when he's 20, and say "wow, look how big your belly was mom!" My job is seriously awesome.
