Earlier this month we had the absolute pleasure to document Heather & Chris’s intimate wedding at the beautiful Eisenhower House in Newport Rhode Island. Heather & Chris’s wedding ended up being on a cold, cloudy day but it made for some incredible photos! One thing we always tell brides is that as long as it’s not downpouring we’ll be good! Even if it is, as long as they’re up for it, we’ll go outside and take some incredible rain photos! Luckily, the rain held off and Heather & Chris were able to celebrate their day without worrying about anything! We’re so thankful for our couple’s who have a laid-back attitude and plan their wedding day with zero stress. Even if Heather was stressed, it sure didn’t seem it. She and Chris were the most welcoming, kind-hearted people we’ve ever met. We’re beyond thankful for them, their family and their incredible friends! Heather’s dad even mentioned us during his speech for saving Heather’s dress on the day of from getting attacked by a big pitbull (we ran in front and protected it at all costs). I cannot wait to share a sneak peek of theirs from the incredible day!

It’s not everyday we get to go into a full on navy base to photograph a wedding but if there was a spot for that to happen, it would obviously be in Newport, RI. Samantha & Mike’s wedding was absolutely stunning last month at The Newport Officers Club. The rain held off for a day and gave us a beautiful backdrop of the Newport Bridge and an incredible reception. After our couples book with us, we normally meet up plenty of times before the wedding to not only go over everything and make sure that we’re all prepared for the day ahead but more importantly to get to know our couples, their story and their families. Over the past 8 years there’s only been a couple of exceptions where we’re usually unable to do so but when we arrive on the wedding day, it’s like we’ve been getting together all along. Liz & Phil were one of those exceptions.

Jenn, Oksana and I had an absolute blast documenting their day as it unfolded. It was almost like we were documenting our best friend. The Bohlin in Newport, RI provided the perfect backdrop for their incredible summery, coastal vibe and their wedding party, family and friends were some of the absolute nicest people on the planet.

Here it is! The first “official” wedding of 2019. However, Heather and Chris did things totally different for their day and instead of throwing a big, huge extravagant wedding, they threw an incredible intimate dinner party with their closest friends and family. If we’re being honest, that’s some of our favorite days to photograph. We had an incredible night with these two and cannot thank them enough for allowing us to photograph such an important day.

Meet: Heather & Chris

Every year we have a handful of couples that truly stand out above the rest. Couples that not only fall in love with our photographs but become true friends to Jenn and I. They’re usually the laid back type, the adventurous duo and are always up for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner with us. Emily & Warren are definitely apart of that group. From the first breakfast date with them, I knew we’d be amazing friends. We shared a love for traveling, adventures, food, and so much more. When it became time to photograph their wedding day, I knew it was going to be perfect and boy, it sure was…

Emily & Warren got married at the amazing Newport Vineyards which combined their love for wine, and Rhode Island all in one. It turned out to be one of the best weather days we could’ve asked for with cloudy skies and cooler temps. It was a little rainy at the beginning portion of the day but as soon as the ceremony time came, the showers had passed and it was beautiful.

These photos mean a lot to me. Not only because Emily & Warren are client’s of ours, but because they’re client turned friends. I had such a hard time choosing specific edits to give them and really perfecting the photographs down to every last detail. However, I think you’ll see that these two are madly in love, and are perfect for one another. I can’t wait to show you more…but for now, enjoy these sneak peeks!

I couldn’t be more excited about this blog post. We met Barbara and Brian about a year ago over the phone. After we chatted it up for a good hour and a half, we realized we should’ve been friends long before wedding planning came around. We have the same free spirited mindset, love for music, bands, and even share a love for Sam Smith. To top it all off they’re foodies just like Jenn and I. When we finally met just at the beginning of this year it felt like we were just meeting up with friends we haven’t seen in awhile. If I was being honest, I could’ve hung out with them all damn day.

Barbara & Brian got married at The Publick House in Sturbridge, MA - A venue we’ve been to a couple of times before. However this time, it was totally different. The place turned into a magical oasis filled amazing family, friends, great music, awesome food and even a Teepee hut. Barbara was one of our most “chill” brides this year. There was a point in the day where she realized she forgot her wedding shoes. If it was any other bride, this would’ve turned into a huge meltdown. Barbara just shrugged her shoulders, laughed and said “Oh well, I guess we’re going barefoot!” It was at that point I knew that Barbara was definitely a client turned bff. These two were absolutely amazing throughout the whole night. They were so photogenic and it definitely all paid off. I am beyond thankful to have been apart of Barbara & Brian’s special day. Thank you two so much for allowing me to capture it and for being amazing friends to us. I hope you both love this sneak peek as much as I do.

On a hot summer day, Christine & Jim tied the knot! After planning their coastal Rhode Island wedding from New York, the day was finally here. Christine had the absolute best team there to make sure everything went smoothly. Shayna from HolySmoke Films did a beautiful job filming the day, Lynda from Lynda Williams Beauty made sure all the ladies were in tip-top shape, The Boston Common Band rocked the house and the staff at OceanCliff in Newport were absolutely amazing. Aubrey & Luke's wedding was absolutely fantastic. Set in the absolutely stunning Newport Vineyards (and maybe one of our favorite venues) we couldn't have asked for a better couple, venue, and wedding day! The weather was a blazing 95 degrees, the sun was out and you know what? I was just happy it didn't rain! I had so much fun getting to know these two over the past year. I remember when we photographed their Lovebird session at 5am in Newport. Seeing them smiling all day from ear to ear and really taking in every single moment was one of my favorite parts of the day. We walked away with some amazing images and in all honestly, there's so much more I wanted to show off! But for now we have a little sneak peek into their vineyard wedding below. Nicole & Pete are two people who are clearly made for one another. Both of them have so much fun in everything they do. From photographing their getting ready, ceremony and reception they had us dying laughing or in tears for how beautiful their day was. Seriously! (Although that's not abnormal for me, I think I cry at every wedding. What can I say? I'm a big sucker for love). Nicole & Pete made me feel like I was just another one of their bffs on the wedding day. They didn't want stuck up formal photos of themselves and they didn't want a ton of family formals. They just wanted to have fun. So I made sure that happened. I even got on the dance floor and whipped out a few moves (I'll spare you the agony of seeing that) We had a blast photographing their day and cannot wait to show everyone all their photos. What can I not say about Jessica & Nick? When Jess & Nick first contacted me, we immediately clicked on the phone and it felt like we’ve been best friends ever since. From their engagement shoot at Coppa, to multiple talks over the phone, and even an invitation to join them for their cake tasting (which oh em gee, it was amazing) I was so ecstatic to finally be able to photograph these two amazing people on a day where we celebrated them and their love.

I get close to my couples. But every year or so there’s always one couple that I tend to become bff’s with, the couple that not only hires me because I do great work, but because they know we’d make best friends. The couple that actually doesn’t mind getting together for dinner or drinks as a matter of fact, they’re excited too. They don’t just think I’m their photographer. They’re just as invested in me as I am with them. This year Nick & Jess was that couple.

I can go off for hours and tell you how their love story went but, I think the photos will speak for themselves. Instead I’d rather tell you what these two mean to me: I’ve never felt more cared for or loved by a couple. Jessica & Nick, you both are the most loving, selfless, and caring people I know. Throughout our whole process you loved hearing more about Jenn & I’s adventures than about your wedding. You sat with me and helped me plan out our engagement, you comforted me when I was worried to call Jenn’s mom, and you were there for us as soon as we got back from our trip, excited to hear about our adventures even though your wedding was a week away. You have cared more about me than any other couple has in all my years of photographing. You made me feel loved. You made me feel special, and you made me feel like your best friend. To be honest, I needed you more than you needed me. I cried when you were reading your vows to one another, during your first dance, and during your toasts. Your family and friends agree that you two are the most selfless people they know as well. You are always there for everyone around you and never questioning it. In this past year, I have seen it over and over again. So instead of you two thanking me for documenting your story, let me be the first to say thank YOU for allowing me to get to know such amazing, genuine, beautiful people. Thank YOU for allowing ME to capture and document this journey together. And thank you for always being there for me. Even if we’ve only known each other for a year now…I have a feeling we’re going to be best friends for a lifetime.

On a rainy October day Jessica & Kyle stepped out to tie the knot. Little did they know that by the afternoon and right before their ceremony, the sun would come out and warm us all up a bit!

These two were so much fun to get to know over the last year. Their wedding was a blast and I had an amazing time documenting their day. To photographing both of them getting ready, to then their first look at Roger Williams Park then to their venue, The Alpine Country Club which provided even more beautiful backdrops for images, I couldn't be happier with the result.

2016 was one heck of a year for me. I took over 40,000 photos, photographed over 20 couples, and met some incredible people along the way. Thank you to all of my clients who made this year so much fun and exciting. You are what keeps me going. To be able to capture beautiful memories for you and your family to share for generations to come, is a true blessing. I got to photograph Ashley & Patrick in -14 degree weather and pop a bottle of champign to celebreate us not dying of frostbite. Yup.

We suddenly now offer free dog walking services at your wedding.

I got to capture all your dance moves. Even those you didn't want anyone to see...

We captured all your reactions when you first saw one another...

And even managed to photobomb quite a bit...

We watched you read a lot of hand written letters...

And saw you open up gifts like a kid on Christmas...

It rained a lot, but that didn't stop us...

Because we had those beautiful summer days too...

We made you and your wedding party laugh...

While we also saw a lot of tears...

We photographed our first elopement and honestly loved it...

And we photographed our first Jewish wedding and loved it...

You all finally got to meet Jenn...

And we had many selfies together...

Overall we had a blast, and can't thank you enough. You're the reason why we keep this up because without you it would be tough.

Boy do I have a treat for you all today. Back at the beginning of this year, my goal was to photograph my couple's in a more candid, storytelling way. Not every wedding presents itself like this, but every so often you get to photograph everything as it happens and you just sit back and smile through the camera. 

May I present to you: Whitney & Tyler
Whitney is a actually an amazing blogger & graphic designer. When I got the call from LA, I honestly thought it was some advertising company trying to sell me something. I had no idea that this couple from LA wanted me to be their wedding photographer. When I found out that Whitney was a blogger, I had this cool idea for her to guest blog on my site. After all, who better to tell her story. I hope you all enjoy this special sneak peek of Whitney & Tyler's big day at Newport Vineyards. These images are definitely some of my favorite thus far. Hello everyone!

My name is Whitney Eshleman, a graphic designer and blogger based in Los Angeles, California. I went to art school at Suffolk University in Boston and lived there for a few years before moving to Los Angeles in 2007. I created my lifestyle blog, hoopLA, on a whim after a layoff in 2010 and it just took off. Since then I have been designing and writing and hoopLA has me all over California, and now expanding across the US.

I've lived in LA for nine years, and anyone who has been here for some time knows dating in Los Angeles isn't easy. It's the land of the online dating. I was lucky enough to have a herniated disc injury and needed surgery because I met my now husband, Tyler. Tyler was my physical therapist after my surgery and it was love at first sight. From the moment we saw each other, we were together. I am originally from Glastonbury, CT and Tyler is from Binghamton, NY so we both have the east coast mentality. Plus, we both went to school in Boston and are huge Red Sox fans. 

Tyler now works for a company where he visits four high end hotels in Los Angeles and the City of Santa Monica, and teaches ergonomics to their employees. I am a freelance graphic designer, so our flexible schedules allow us to have "adventures" (as we call them) and hike, bike, camp, and travel as much as we can. We want to experience as much as life has to offer.

When it came to wedding planning, I was planning 3,000 miles away from where we were getting married. My mom helped me plan everything after we were engaged. We wanted something rustic, yet elegant and Newport Vineyards was the perfect venue. Tyler and I are huge winos, so when we heard it was a vineyard, we were sold. I visited 3 months later to seal the deal and Tyler and I fly out the May before so he could see it too. In terms of finding our DJ, caterer, Ryan, hair/makeup, and flowers, I had to just trust my gut. My mom found a few through word of mouth recommendations and I found some on theknot.com and did a little research on my own. In May we met with everyone and felt confident in our choices and they all turned out to be rock stars. One word of advice for your wedding is to find a photographer who you enjoy being around because they are with you all day. I not only enjoyed Ryan and his team, but I loved them. On a day where emotions are running high, they knew exactly how to take control and pose us. They can really read people and made sure Tyler and I were happy, comfortable, fed, and liquored up.  Ryan is a joy to work with and he always has a smile on his face. More than anything I loved that he checked in with Tyler and I right up to the day and he was always accessible. I am in absolute love with what I've seen so far and hope you love them too!

On a misty Saturday in September, Beth & Joe decided to tie the knot at The Towers in Narragansett. Although the weather wasn't the best, that didn't stop Beth & Joe. We braved the incoming storm and walked away with some beautiful photos. I was so excited for Beth & Joe's big day from the moment they contacted me. From the beautiful hidden treasures where we took their portraits at, to their killer dance performance mid way through their reception. It couldn't have been anymore fun. Today marks 1 month for these two and I couldn't have thought of a better gift than a little sneak peek into their day. I can't wait to show you the rest.

Cheers for the weekend being right around the corner! This weekend we have ourselves a triple header. That means we're photographing a couple Friday, Saturday and Sunday! It's going to one heck of a weekend but we're most excited to return to this beautiful venue pictured below: Newport Vineyards.

Amanda & Dan both grew up in Rhode Island, so it was only fitting that they celebrated with all their family and friends in true Rhody style. This included a beautiful, rustic Newport vineyard wedding complete with "chowda", and an amazing clambake that had fresh lobster, mussels, potatoes, corn on the cob, and even portuguese sausage! It was an absolutely perfect day.

It's not very often I don't have the opportunity to meet my clients in person. Very rarely are they from somewhere other than Rhode Island or Massachusetts. However, Amanda & DJ contacted me and told me their story and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph these two. 

They met back in high school through mutual friends and started dating in college and ever since then, the rest was history. Originally from West Chester, PA they wanted to have their special day with a little coastal glamour and Newport was the perfect spot. I seriously had a blast photographing their day. From the getting ready, to the first look, to their portrait session - These two were up for anything. One of my favorite parts of their day was when Cayleigh (Amanda's MOH) made her speech. She spoke about how Amanda's dad, Richard (who unfortunately passed away) would be so happy that this day finally came so he could welcome DJ into the family. Although Richard couldn't be there, Cayleigh was and they had a special tradition in Amanda's family where new members would be sprayed in with Silly String - Cayleigh did the honors for Richard. It was a special moment in the room and almost had everyone in tears of joy. Richard was apart of the day just as much as anyone else. I spotted a photo of him and Amanda on a nearby table during the reception and immediately wanted to re-create that photo with DJ and Declan. You can see that below. 

I apologize for the length of this post. It has to be the biggest blog post I've done in awhile. But these two are so gorgeous that I couldn't pass up sharing all of these with you. A special shout out and thank you to Shannon Matos, who joined us for the day and helped along the way! And to all of Amanda & DJ's family and friends: We hope you all enjoy these as much as we enjoyed capturing them.
